1. I think Mercutio is the one who causes his own death. In the beginning of the Act 3 scene 1, Mercutio acts aggressively to Benvolio. Himself at this point has already shown his willing to fight anyone that comes into his mind. Mercutio has potential to engage into a fight very easily no matter who is the one he is going to fight with. After Tybalt comes, Mercutio constantly trying to find excuse from Tybalt's language so that he can fight with Tybalt. He tries to twist the word "consort" into "minstrels".
