Presentation Feedbacks

Through the theorists presentations, I learned some useful theories plus some practical warmups. Applying to the scene I am working on, I think the theories that are serving for the exaggeration will be more suitable. I think because the play is mostly a memory, as Tom, I should exaggerate my body in the acting. In the scene, I might exaggerate my depression towards Amanda. However, when the timeline goes back to the present, I will stop exaggerating because it is the reality. I should be regret, or, according to the Method, I am regretful. I do learn from the Peter Brook. He was a commercial theater director, his work must be influenced by this in term of the exaggeration. He emphasizes the use of space, which I think will be a new thing that I need to focus on in my acting. In the scene my group presents, both Amanda and Tom are the space user. Amanda is the character that takes most of the space in the house, trying to control everything in the family. On the other hand, Tom...

Scenes proposal

The piece I will play is the end of the scene 7. This part includes Tom's memory about after Jim left and Amanda picked on Tom that he didn't fully research Jim, Tom and Amanda's final argument, Tom left the family, and Tom's monologue in reality. I would like to focus on the essential of the play: the regret Tom holds to the family. The element of the play that guides me to read through the whole play is that Tom is an unreliable character, meaning he can change his appearance and attitude; or the family situation in his memory despite the truth. For instance, he can worsen his family's condition or makes himself a better person to build or create a better atmosphere as what is shown to the audience. In his own words to discribe this atmosphere of sadness: " A piece of music." The truth that underling the memory attracts me through out the whole play. Finding the turth will also contribute to a better understanding of Tom's regrets on the family. Th...

Scenes and Themes in Interest

1. Tom regrets that he left the family behind based on the reason that he misses Laura; also consider Tom as an unreliable narrator: did he really treat Laura the way he recalls? If so, why did he left Laura without thinking of her? Scenes: one of the first or the ending monologue; one of the scenes that Tom cares about Laura, or the drunk scene that Tom came back; the scene that Tom leaves. 2.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzm1Na-XXTQ Scene 4 For Tom: because he is drunk, he can act and speack less conciously. Also sort of laughing when he speaks. Also speaks kindly to Laura: soft voices, smiling... 3.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kzZ_HYi7Mug Prologue For Tom: guilty eyes, depressed, exhausted, but don't move the hand that is holding the cigarette, move the other hand. Short pauses can be presented between the sentences. 4. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kzZ_HYi7Mug Scene 7 For Tom: When Jim left and Amada was teasing him, Tom should pause and feel guilty and surprise....
