IA Proposal
Stories
- Combining three stories (following the timeline):
- A Wall of Fire Rising
- Night Women
- Children of the Sea
- Scenes:
- A Wall of Fire Rising
- Guy and Lili’s argument about chasing the dream
- Guy’s own struggle in the air balloon
- Lili’s sadness on Guy’s death
- Night Women
- More like a background story, shows how Lili raises Little Guy
- Maybe Lili also feel sad about Little Guy’s departing
- Children of the Sea
- Little Guy and the girl in Children of the Sea’s argument about leaving the country
- Little Guy’s own struggle on the boat
- The girl’s sadness on Little Guy’s death
Interesting because…
- There are two generations in the adaptation, and each generation is showing a similar pattern of chasing the dream and departing the old but failed
- The rounds and repetitions also allow this adaptation to corporate with music intimately.
- The change in costumes and design to indicate different personalities will also be interesting.
Characters List:
- There are many characters in this story, but because in each scene, only two characters will be presented, two people can handle the story under a filming setting.
- Characters:
- For the male actor:
- Guy
- Little Guy
- Maybe the father of the girl
- For the female actor
- Lili
- The Girl
- Maybe Celianne
Director's Vision:
- Plot
- The story starts with an argument between Guy and Lili, this part we can directly copy from the text, without singing. This argument should show Guy’s longing of being free and decent. Maybe add signings after the argument, each displays the desire of the other’s understanding.
- The next scene will be Guy alone in the air balloon. It is presented as a monologue or a voice solo. It should displays Guy’s despair when he realizes that he cannot be free eventually. The scene ends without Guy jumping out of the balloon.
- When Lili sees Guy’s corpse, she will sing at the end of the Guy’s song, showing her desperation. When Lili goes back home, she became a night woman. This scene could be short, within a short verse. During the song, Little guy grows up and leave the house, without saying anything. The song ends at Lili’s desperation: “why did everybody leaves me?”
- The next scene is the argument between Little Guy and the girl. The argument should be similar to the scene 1.
- The next scene will be guy alone in the edge of the ship. He throws the book into the water and then jump into the sea. Displaying one possible way of how Guy jumping out of the balloon.
- The final scene will be the girl singing why Little Guy left him, surrounded by the butterflies.
- Musical Elements:
- Contains:
- Background music
- Four similar solos
- Two similar duets
- Features:
- Similar solos or duets should have the same chorus
- The structure of the songs follows the Pop music structure
Literary Analysis:
- Generations
- I will use the similar event and similar characters’ decisions to display the similarities from generations to generations.
- Using the similar event, but different social environments to display the changes between the generations and the time period.
- Using the contrasting verses and the same chorus will facilitate the concepts.
