1. I think Mercutio is the one who causes his own death. In the beginning of the Act 3 scene 1, Mercutio acts aggressively to Benvolio. Himself at this point has already shown his willing to fight anyone that comes into his mind. Mercutio has potential to engage into a fight very easily no matter who is the one he is going to fight with.
