Seize the Day Sharing

Every sentence that at the beginning of each stanza stood out to me. Some of them have deep meanings that I agree upon, and some of them are well constructed to have pleasing sounds. Of course, some contain both. Moreover, these lines combine to form a central idea that repels the title: “seize the day.”

The line “Love your work, and enjoy your play” has a pleasing sound. The vowel in each word helps you stretch your mouth. The constantly moving lips bring current air in and out of the oral cavity. And since each alternation is relatively short, the rhythm is fastened and make the sentence uplifting. On the other hand, the “y” sound rhymes in this line. When you try to pronounce the sound, the “y” sound always forces air out from your mouth. The outbursting air accents the word, while the desire of taking next breath fastens the rhythm. This “y” sound thus create a fast pace and uplifting feeling and a speedy excitement. The feeling and the excitement are just like the hardworking lifestyle and untrammeled social life.

I have a personal connection with the sentence “Have a place and a time to sit with your thoughts.” After a day of talking and engaging with people, I do feel like I need a moment of solitude. It usually happens when I am on the bed before sleeping. I would think of the day I have been through and the conversations I have enjoyed. Sometimes I think about even deeper things like the types of people and other ways of studying. This is the time that I can condense my thoughts and either make or confirm my decisions. As the poem suggests, this is a way to enjoy the day to a maximum.

The first line “Remember to wake early and take your time in rising” has both compelling meaning and tasty sounds in it. The “m”,”ke”, and “in” rhyme in the sentence, which most of them are nasal sounds. I do have a “smart” way to explain the sounding in this line, but the rhymes do give a more fluent texture to this convincing sentence. On the other hand, I do think waking up early will help you perform better. Sometimes getting up early not only save your time but also make you more efficient at that time. The bright early morning gives you a clear mind and an uninterrupted environment. My roommate wakes up early and work in every weekend and outperformed most of our classmates.

These lines not only stand out to me by themselves. When they are put together, they synchronize and become the essence of the poem. Each sentence is followed by more analogies that furthermore explain the process of each sentence suggests. And when you circle and look at those sentences only, you would find that the poem is describing the way you should spend your day chronologically. How you should wake up early and look at the mirror telling yourself to focus on small goals. How you may take a shower and walk outside and take a deep breath… All you should do throughout the day is to embrace the day and treasure it as the last day.
