Romeo & Juliet Act 3
scene 1:
- Mercutio and Benvolio are mocking a fight
- Tybalt comes and asks for Romeo
- Mercutio is irritated, he wants to fight with Tybalt
- Romeo comes and refuses to fight
- Mercutio is unsatisfied with Romeo's answer
- Mercutio fights with Tybalt and dies
- Tybalt flees and comes back again
- Romeo fights Tybalt and kill him
- Romeo flees, Benvolio tells the Prince what happens
- Prince decides to banish Romeo
1. Mercutio has no clear motive to fight Tybalt. He is not protecting Romeo, I think he just wants to fight.
2. Mercutio is angry with the term "consort" he thinks he is good
3. Pp. 108 "good Capulet-which name I tender as dearly as mine own-be satisfied." Romeo willing to turn the two households together
Sence 2:
- Juliet is waiting for nurse's respond
- Nurse says Tybalt is killed by Romeo and Romeo is banished
- Juliet curses Romeo
- Juliet be comforted that Romeo is alive
- Juliet feels sad because Romeo is banished
- Nurse suggests finding Romeo for Juliet
1. Pp. 117 "true love acted simple modesty." True love at the first sight
2. Juliet says Nature and contradicted terms.
3. Pp. 122 "that one word of 'banished,' hath slain ten thousand Tybalts."
4. The nurse says she will find Romeo for Juliet. she does all good for Juliet even if she is sad about Tybalt's death

Scene 3:
- Romeo is waiting for news from Friar Lawrence
- Friar tells Romeo is banished, and tell him it is a good piece of news
- Romeo says the banishment is worse than death, it is a torture
- Romeo thinks he is never seeing Juliet again
- Romeo thinks Juliet hates him
- Nurse comes and asks for Romeo
- Romeo asks Nurse what Juliet thinks of him
- Nurse says Juliet speaks of nothing but cries
- Romeo thinks Juliet no longer likes him
- Romeo tries to kill himself
- Friar stops him
- Friar says if Romeo did not kill Tybalt, he would be dead and he should be happy he is alive. He is alive and thus will have chances to see Juliet, banishment will be temporary.
- Romeo recovers and Nurse tells him Juliet wants to see him. Nurse gives Romeo Juliet's ring
- Romeo becomes happy and going to find Juliet

2. pp.129 "stand up,...., for Juliet's sake..."
3. pp.133 "How well my comfort is reviv'd by this!" by Juliet's ring but not Friar's words. What matters Romeo the most is still Juliet.
- Lord Capulet comes and meets with Paris about Juliet's marriage
- Lord Capulet decides to marry Paris with Juliet on Thursday, 3 days after the time they speak
1. Lady Capulet seems unwilling to marry Juliet with Paris so fast.
2. Why the Capulets are unaware of Juliet and Romeo's marriage?
3. Lord Capulet tries to use marriage to soothe the pain of losing Tybalt??
Scene 5:
- Romeo stays at Juliet's room and about to leave when the day comes
- They figure they will meet someday
- Lady Capulet tells Juliet the family will send people to poison Romeo
- Juliet says she will poison him by her own hand
- Lady Capulet comes to tell Juliet she is going to marry Paris
- Juliet begs her to tell Lord Capulet not to
- Lord Capulet appears
- Lord Capulet is shocked that Juliet's disobedience and bursts outraged
- Lord Capulet says he will banish Juliet from the family if she disagreed with the marriage.
- Juliet begs Lady Capulet to extend the date, Lady Capulet refuses
- Juliet wishes to hear good consoler from the nurse
- Nurse tells Juliet to marry Paris
- Juliet swears she will go to the Friar for advice or she will kill herself
1. Pp. 139 "More light and light, more dark and dark our woes!" compare to Friar Lawrence's words about the light and sorrow night
2. Pp. 140 "For sweet discourses in our times to come." Foreshadowing, the next time they meet they die
3. Pp. 148 "make the bridal bed in that dim monument where Tybalt lies."
4. Lord Capulet at first cannot speak directly to Juliet, revealing the distant relationship the family has. It explains that why the Capulets are not aware of Romeo and Juliet's marriage. Also, it is because after they married, Romeo kills Tybalt and they have no time to announce; Romeo the name stimulates hatred, the marriage between Romeo and Juliet will not be permitted.
