Romeo and Juliet Play Sets
Romeo: armor
Juliet: flower
Friar Lawrence: punk globes
Nurse: tissue box
Benvolio: white creepy smiling mask
Tybalt: metal sword
Mercutio: Plastic dagger
Paris: huge gold ring like a size of a fist
The Capulet: big metal Staff
Prince: huge extremely high crown
I want the play more like the Chalk circle and the Movie version of Romeo and Juliet. This means everyone in the show except Romeo and Juliet needs to act crazy. They should start normal. While Mercutio appears, everyone can act more crazy bit by bit. The world here goes wrong like a mistake appears in computer. Romeo and Juliet should remain mostly normal and at the end, seeing each other dead, they turn crazy finally and kill themselves. The show should thus end there and omit the part of the families reconciliation.
The craziness of the people around Romeo and Juliet provides a good sense of isolation and lonelyness. It not only serves for the love in first sight but also serves for the depression the two characters have later on. Besides the acting, these things can be used for each character to show the craziness.
Romeo's armor gives him a outshowing strength, but also showing the inner soft self. He uses armor to protect his innocence and keeping away from the crazy wrong world. At the end, when he sees Paris with Juliet's corpse, he should abandon the armor and destroy the armor and turn crazy. He then kill Paris and drink the poison.
Juliet's flower can changes overtime. At first she can hold on flowers that represents pure and innocent. Later rose for love. At the end, she should hold flowers that represents death. When she sees Romeo dead besides her, she could eat the flowers and kill herself by constantly stabbing herself. They both break their consciousness at the end.
Benvolio should not wear mask first. He should hold the mask and make it obvious to the audience. He should act wondering if he is going to put the mask. He tends to put it on. Later when the Prince asks who killed Mercutio, Benvolio wears the mask and explain everything. This should be the point that obvious to the audience that everything, the world goes wrong. During the explaination, Benvolio's lines can be delivered by sound tracks, which is modified by computer to create a weird, unreal, and sarcastic tone.
Friar Lawrence's punk globes indicate that he is a sciencist, which is not very reliable and all he cares is about his creation. He is smart but too focus on himself, thus less consider others.
Nurse's tissue box helps nurse to give others tissue. At first when she comfort Juliet, she should be really comforting her. The sound is from her heart. Later on, she should use the robot voice for comforting Juliet and robot motion for handing out the tissue. She loses her feeling but doing the thing that she used to doing and doesn't know why she is doing it. It should be scary.
Tybalt’s sword is just sword. He dies before the world turns wrong.
Mercutio’s dagger indicates that he is aggressive but useless. His dagger is small and fast but power less. After he dies, Romeo does not take the dagger. Tybalt’s sword cannot hurt Romeo because of his armor. Romeo takes Tybalt’s sword and kill Tybalt.
Paris is rich. He is crazily rich. He appears before the world goes wrong. He should have a small ring first, show it to the Capulet. The Capulet should refuse it. But after the world turns wrong, he should wear a huge gold ring, to announce he is going to marry Juliet. This time he shows the ring to the Capulet, he should change the ring in the same size as his.
The Capulet has a metal staff, it is heavy and symbolizes the statue in his house. He shouts and lifts the staff to Juliet.
Prince has a high crown just to make him funny. It is crazy for all people to listen to a funny guy.
The Lady Capulet is chopped off because she doesn’t fit in the craziness context. Benvolio is included because he is a good indicator that the world is turning wrong.
