Scene 1:

  • Romeo has a dream about Juliet finding him dead
  • A message comes, not from friar Lawrence but Juliet's death
  • Romeo decides to go back to see Juliet
  • Romeo buys poison from an apothecary
1. Romeo's dream is another foreshadowing of their death
2. Romeo wishes to have the strongest poison and the most violent one. He wants to die in pain

Scene 2:

  • Friar John comes back and tells Friar Lawrence that he was trapped and being suspected carrying the plague.
  • Friar Lawrence thus knows that Romeo didn't get his message but doesn't know that Romeo knows Juliet is "dead" and planing to kill himself
  • Friar Lawrence is going to take Juliet in his cell and keep her there.
1. Everything goes wrong.
2. There are too many unexpected happens and lead the plot going to a tragedy.

Scene 3:

  • Paris comes to Juliet's tomb with flowers
  • Paris calls page to go off
  • Romeo comes to Juliet's tomb
  • Romeo threats his friend to go off
  • Romeo tries to dig the tomb, Paris stops him

  • Romeo finds Juliet and kills himself with poison
  • Friar Lawrence comes and Juliet wakes up
  • Watch men come and Friar Lawrence asks Juliet to go off with him
  • Juliet finds Romeo and refuses to leave
  • Friar Lawrence flees.
  • Juliet kills herself with dagger
  • Watch men come and find the corpses
  • Prince comes and calls up the both families
  • Two families regret and reconcile
1. Paris loves Juliet. He comes to the tomb with good reason. Maybe write a play with Paris's perspective, it would also be a good tragedy
2. How Romeo and Paris treats their followers differently emphasizes Romeo's grief
3. Dream is an important concept throughout the whole show
4. The origin focuses on different things than the movie. It has big portion on reconciling the two families, while the movie stops on the death of the lovers. The movie does better on delivering the tragedy, while the play gives more on telling the power of love
